Commissioned by Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, the artist Cai Guo-Qiang created daytime fireworks titled When the Sky Blooms with Sakura at Yotsukura Beach in Iwaki City, an area that had been devastated by the 2011 Japan earthquake and the resulting tsunami.

The instant bloom of the sakura in the sky conveys collective hope and a vision of a future where the land may once again become a pink sea of blossoms.
